SAIL SHUTTERS
Back
These photos, taken in December
2000, show the stages that were needed to create a shutter. Many thanks
to the willing trust members, who agreed to be photographed:

The
shutter frames have been made by Derek. The iron casting
was done by Canlin Foundry, Langley Mill.
The
canvas is cut to size.

The
canvas edges are neatened prior to being stitched to the
shutter.
The
canvas is stitched to the shutter on the three metal sides. Vera
(left) and Fred (right) are featured here stitching the canvas
to the frame.

This
picture features Joyce (left) and Paul (right).
The
lower edge of the canvas is tacked to the wood with copper
nails.

The
finished sails are then stored ready to be painted with white
"lead" paint.
There are a total
of 21 shutters to each sail giving 126 in all. 134 shutters will be made,
leaving 8 spare.
